How to check on your refund
Use the IRS Where’s My Refund tool to track your projected refund date. An update will be available within 24 hours after you e-file this year’s return, or four weeks after you file a paper return. When to expect your refund check
Once your tax return is filed, the refund process takes up to 21 days if the return is e-filed. For amended returns that were received by mail, it will take one month or longer for returns to be processed and refunds to be sent out.
The refund tracker will tell you when your return has been received, approved and when your refund has been sent. It may take five days for the refund to show in your bank account or several weeks for your check to arrive in the mail.
